Hey, I am Caroline Morton!

I’m a software developer with a unique background in medicine and epidemiology. My career began as a junior doctor, followed by training in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where I discovered a passion for software development. This unexpected twist led me to co-found Clinical Metrics (formally Yellow Bird Consulting) where I’ve been able to blend my medical expertise with coding skills to create simulation tools to improve medical training.

As commercial Rust and Python developer, I have collaborated with several start-ups, offering custom software solutions that focus on microservices and data pipelines. I am the co-author of the book Async Rust , a comprehensive guide to asynchronous programming in Rust, and I am also the co-lead of Women in Rust , a community group that aims to support Women in the Rust programming language.

In addition to my software development work, I am pursuing a part-time PhD in Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, focusing on methods for generating realistic synthetic health data. My research is generously sponsored by SurrealDB, a multi-model database entirely written in Rust, which aligns perfectly with my interests in Rust and its applications in health data research.

I provide consulting services through Parakeet Consulting, where I specialize in medtech software development, data analysis tools, and teaching modern software practices. More details can be found on my Consulting, Open Science, and PhD pages.
